Lashes not lasting? Let’s fix it.
When a set doesn’t hold the way you expected, it’s not always one big issue. It’s often a few small things adding up. Here’s what it can be:
Improper lash prep
Skipping out on lash prep may not seem like a big deal, but it can make a noticeable difference in your retention. Even if they look clean, our natural lashes often have microscopic traces of dirt, oil, debris, skincare, and makeup sitting along the lash line which can interfere with the bond.
Use an oil free cleanser before you start. It makes a bigger difference than people think.
The Amount Of Glue Matters
Too little adhesive results in a weaker bond, which can cause your lashes to lift or fall off sooner than expected. You want to apply an even, generous coat at the base. Wait 20-30 seconds for the glue to dry down, this allows it to reach a tacky consistency, which helps improve grip and hold.

Placement is everything
Even with the right amount of adhesive, placement plays a huge role in the comfort and longevity of your set.
Aim to place your DIY lash base 2-3mm away from the waterline. If you place too close to the waterline, the set will feel pokey and uncomfortable. If they’re placed too far away, the lashes won't sit securely against the natural lash line, which can cause them to droop, lift, or not hold their shape as well.
It can take some practice in the beginning but once you have your placement down pat, application takes less than 5 minutes.

Don’t skip sealing
Sealing helps lock everything in.
If you’re not doing this step, try adding it in. It can make a noticeable difference in how long your lashes last. As a bonus, it will also help rid any stickiness along the lash line.

Your routine affects retention
Even with perfect application, your day to day habits matter. Things like:
- Oily skin or skincare
- Side sleeping
- Heat, sweat, steam
- Certain products around the eyes
All of these factors can break down the bond faster.
If your lashes used to last longer,
Something likely changed. New skincare, different lash style, slight change in your application, even how you sleep.
What’s normal
Some people get 5+ days. Some are more in the 1-3 day range. Both can be normal depending on your skin and routine.
Also, if you lose a DIY fan or two, you don’t need to redo the whole set. All you have to do is reapply it in that section, easy peasy!
