Are DIY lashes damaging to your natural lashes?

Are DIY lashes damaging to your natural lashes?

This is a common question and I totally understand why. Anything that you are putting near your lash line, you want to know it’s not going to ruin your natural lashes.

DIY lashes aren’t designed the same way as traditional lash extensions, which is where most of the confusion comes from. They’re meant to be worn short term, usually a few days at a time, and then removed and reapplied. Because of that, they don’t sit on the lash long enough to interfere with your natural growth cycle when they’re used properly.

They’re designed with a flexible hold and short term wear in mind, so they’re comfortable to wear for a few days at a time and easy to remove when you’re ready.

Why they’re different from eyelash extensions

Lash extensions and DIY lashes are designed for completely different wear styles.

Lash extensions are applied individually and are meant to be worn continuously with proper maintenance and regular fills. DIY lashes are designed for shorter wear, where you apply, remove, and reapply more frequently. Neither is inherently damaging when used as intended. The main difference is simply how long they’re worn and how they’re maintained.

Where things can go wrong

Most issues come down to application and removal, not the lashes themselves. Using too much adhesive, letting buildup sit at the base, or pulling them off without remover can all create unnecessary tension on your natural lashes. Wearing them longer than intended without proper care can also start to cause problems.

It’s less about the product being “damaging” and more about how it’s being used.

Lash care still matters

Keeping your lash line clean is a big part of maintaining healthy natural lashes.

Citizen DIY Lashes are designed to handle gentle cleansing, which helps prevent buildup along the lash line, especially when you’re wearing your set for multiple days.

Starting each new set with a clean base and being consistent with proper removal makes a noticeable difference over time.
